FF all about the house...

Mommy's IdeaWell, we made it through another crazy week.  I would rather not re-live some of the trauma of moving with the military, so you won't hear about it ;-)  I did have a fantastic ray of sunshine Thursday morning while I was traveling back from Falls Church, VA (where the dog was dropped off) back to my house on our way to our family's interview (8:30am, downtown DC, 'nuff said).

It is Cherry Blossom Festival time!!  It is the most lovely 'stuck in traffic' experience I have ever had.  These pale pink/white blooms hugged the entire shoreline of the Potomac River.  Crossing the bridge in the District was just breathtaking and beautiful!!  I happily stared out the window while sitting for the various lights to get around the Lincoln Memorial and thanked God for getting to see them before we moved.  You guys have GOT to come see this sometime, it is well worth the effort!!!

Have you guys ever read anything that just really got your attention and you thought about it for hours, maybe days later??  I read a post from Traci @ Star In My Own Universe this week about "The Mom I Was Going to Be", and I loved it!!!  Well worth the read, she is so honest and I resonate with this post!!

Just FYI, there is an app to help you locate your stolen phone!! I have a family friend who did just that (he is very techy, so this really didn't surprise me to hear).  He caught the thief who stole his phone, read about how he did it and get yourself that app!!!

Oh, and speaking of phones, this moving to Alaska thing just keeps handing out road bumps!!!  We have to give up our cell phone numbers and switch carriers for the first time in over a decade!!!  It's going to be horrible!!  Except that the 2 people I text with the most will now be with the same carrier.... always a silver lining folks!!

We also had to reschedule our Alaska Marine ferry thing so we could get the van onto it, and that meant we had to disembark in Haines... leaving a 3 day drive on the Alcan Hwy that we had been trying to avoid.

I shared a button code a few weeks ago and I discovered that the code was actually wrong.  Here is a great button grab box code for anyone that may want their own button to share:

I miss my dog already.  He has been gone only a day and I already had to sweep up after supper BY MYSELF and there was no one to greet me and to pet while I was having my morning coffee.  That is just not fun :-(  However, the lady who was driving him to the breeder called to reassure me that he was a VERY happy puppy running around her yard with one of her Swissies.

We have enjoyed hunting through the housing market up in Anchorage AK.  I am one of those truly weird people who love walking through open houses and 'shopping' so to speak for a home.  We don't know if we are going to buy, we prefer to rent since we have no idea where the military will send us in two years.  But I did want to share with you one dream home we have drooled over a couple times... I wonder if they are desperate to sell for my measly housing amount???

    1. Sure have, and I have been trying to find it in a cute plaque to put up on the wall.

  2. I could live with being stuck in traffic at that point too. The cherry blossoms are beautiful!

    1. Especially framing the Jefferson Memorial and reflecting in the slightly misty Potomac. I am telling you, AMAZING!

  3. Having been in the USAF for 10 yrs. I moved a few times. Weariness of moving was one reason we have not moved again for many years (also been out longer now than I was in). There is still the excitement of new place. It can be a free vacation. If you find the wonderful around you in a traffic jam, I suspect you'll find it in all the places you go.

    1. Thank you, I am trying. I do have my "glass is half empty" days, but I battle them so the kids don't get bummed.

  4. Hope things go well with your move - we moved 7 times in our first 8 years of marriage but we're staying put for the first time in a long time - we've been 3. 5 years in the same house...

    1. Woohoo, over 3 years, that's great!! My hubby keeps telling me that "moving is one of the most stressful things to go through"... yep, I know, honey. Someday we will retire and stay put for a while :-)

  5. That is one beautiful, spacious house! But I wouldn't want to clean it.

Good luck with your move. Alaska is on my list of places to visit...one of these days!

  6. Moving is tough no matter what age. We moved here over a year and half ago I'm still adjusting! I think moving to Alaska is exciting and scary oh my the snow they get! I follow another blogger in Alaska and the places and pictures just looks amazing there. Good luck to you and your family.

  7. What a house! I'm trying to clear out the one I have, which is just a tiny, less than 1000 sq foot house. We've been here 12 years now and I shudder to think of moving again.

I wish you the best during your move and hope you can find an amazing place to live. You're in my prayers.

I made a little progress on sizing up my quilt squares this afternoon. Maybe there is hope after all.

    1. I have been clearing out here as well. We have a weight limit with the moving company. My current humorous joke is: I have to lose 300 pounds by May!! A huge dent will be felt when I can unload all the old baby stuff this week, yay!! Good luck clearing out, that always feels so good.

  8. That is one awesome house. If I were thinking of buying it, I'd not ONLY need to be rich enough to pay for it, I'd also need to be rich enough to hire a fleet of SERVANTS to keep it that clean and neat for me!

    1. Well, we do have 5 kids... bwahahaha. Oh, did I say that out loud?? Oops. No really, I would have no idea what to do with that much house and there is NO WAY we could afford it. I just like to see how the 'others' live every now and then. They usually bake cookies for open house days also ;-)

  9. We are living parrallel lives, except I'm not with the military or moving to Alaska. It's just a corporate move to Seattle. I do however have a military friend who jokes that we move more than she does....I'm starting to believe her I think.

Like you, I love house shopping! Or I used to until I discovered the market where we are going is nothing like the market we are in. It's a bit depressing in many ways.

I hope you find something. I know that pressure of OMG! Where are we going to live??!

We are also driving, 2400 miles. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with us.

    1. Oh I know it!!! I think I looked at a house you liked with a circular kitchen?? Oh and get this, the house I had accidentally set my heart on went under contract last week!! Aaaaahh! Then there's the stress of people not wanting to allow dogs in a rental, bummer :-(

I hope you guys are very successful with your house hunting also. I hope the drive is fun and you get to see tons of stuff! The kids are hoping we see buffalo and elk on the Alcan Hwy, we are really hoping it's not too close to the van ;-) Oh to be a kid again and move with just the adventure to look forward to, eh??

    2. I know the no dogs thing, ugh! one person wanted to meet my dog or see a video before even considering whether he'd take a dog. Seriously?? By the way, what company or service did you use to move your dog? We are trying to find out how to move our dog since she can't come in the car with us. I also have an overseas military friend who needs a relo to the US with her dog. Maybe we can all share the horror stories of moving pets!

    3. I go lucky this time, the breeder who is keeping him this summer did the hard work of finding transportation this time. When I get him back he will be flying to us. I want to do some research with that because recently there have been several deaths in airplanes due to pressure problems in the pet areas. That would upset me so much. I need to make sure he will be safe.

  11. Ah, I just passed through DC last week. Just beautiful..but the traffic:( Wow that house was just simply amazing. I am hoping you can get 'more' house in Alaska than you could in DC.
I look forward to following your moving saga:)
